Functional Yoga Therapy: Advanced Assessment Techniques I
Thursday May 25th – Tuesday May 30th, 2017
We are thrilled to partner with Maria Mendola, a Tuscon-based leader in yoga therapy, to present this five-day training and certification in Functional Yoga Therapy. Utilizing the techniques of ancient yoga practices, modern Structural Yoga Therapy, therapeutic yoga and Ayurveda, this program delves deeply into hands-on assessment tools and their practical applications.Strengthen your assessment skills and deepen your ability to attract and serve private clients.
Exploring advanced anatomy and kinesiology, participants will gain a thorough understanding of specific symptomatic-presenting issues while maintaining focus on the client as a fully integrative human being. Students learn the complete cycle of healing by practicing all assessment techniques on each other, and participate in a “real-client” clinic day. A detailed workbook is included with all assessment techniques and treatment planning tools.
Through hands-on teaching, Maria guides students in advanced postural assessment, range of motion, muscle strength and flexibility testing, as well as practical Ayurvedic concepts related to the assessment and treatment process. Students learn correct use of tools including goniometer, scoliometer, specialized balls, somatics, sound healing, and marma point concepts. Students also learn methods to better understand a client’s emotional anatomy, as well as training in sensitivity and awareness.
Maria’s work helping people overcome dis-ease started in the world of Western medicine as a nurse. However, when she saw and experienced just how powerful the breath is in healing, she knew it was time to more fully integrate past learning while seeking a more holistic direction. This insight took her down new paths investigating ancient arts along with new modalities. She studied with experts in Ayurveda including Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Robert Svoboda, Dr. Carl Rogue and Dr. Paul Dugliss. She learned Structural Yoga Therapy from Mukunda Stiles, and LePage’s Integrative Yoga Therapy. Maria also studied trauma release, dance therapy, kinesiology, and homeopathy. For two years, she lived with the Cherokee tribe and studied in depth their shamanic ways.
Where most health professionals see separate and distinct schools and decide to specialize in one or two of them, Maria saw very clearly how they could work together to create unique healing packages, customized to address each client’s specific needs. By integrating the best from all of her wisdom teachers, she developed her own holistic and inclusive approach–Functional Yoga Therapy ™.
Plan to arrive at Ganesha’s studios at 1:00p on Thursday May 25th. Classes will end at 5:00p on Tuesday the 30th.
This course has preparatory homework that must be completed prior to beginning training. After enrolling in the course, you will be able to download the homework documents.
